How to Install Skype 4.3 in Ubuntu 14.04 | Free VPS

6:29:00 AM

Skype is a chat software that enables people to communicate with each other through plain chatting and voice or video chat.

Step 1 - Before installing, login to root or use sudo before the command

Step 2 - Before installing skype, check if any skype version is already installed. If so first remove that.
   sudo apt-get remove skype skype-bin:i386 skype:i386

Step 3 - Before the installation, we need to install skype supporting package.

Sniqt is a program that takes care of the rest. As known, Ubuntu has got rid of tray icons. Instead, it now uses indicators and only indicators. Sniqt converts the Qt tray icons into working indicators.
   sudo apt-get install sni-qt:i386

Step 4 - Now we need to install gdebi.

As you may know, dpkg -i package_name.deb is used for installing software on debian systems. But dpkg -i does not install the package dependencies.

Gdebi is a smart tool capable of installing .deb packages, and using the apt-get package manager in the background, to install the software dependencies.

Step 5 - Download skype package using below command.
   wget download.skype.com/linux/skype-ubuntu-precise_4.3.0.37-1_i386.deb

Step 6 - Install skype using below command.
   sudo gdebi skype-ubuntu-precise_4.3.0.37-1_i386.deb

Step 7 - Now installation is completed and we can use it.

That's it...
